I am thinking of trying to grow big watermelons. Does anyone have any seeds to share and plenty of advice on how to grow them?

Its a little late to start Melons, you need to find a back- up plant already in pot,any growers in your area,we started seeds 3-4 weeks ago.I could ship you a plant if you want to be our 105th member GWG deadline is 2 weeks.cost is 10$ a year

And there is some great prize money to be won Jab;up to $1,000.00 first place prize to club members.Truthfully you could still grow a watermelon from seeds where you are. You just don't have the time to grow one nearly as big as you might have had you started earlier. In other words you might not be very competitive for a prize in a competition.

Hey Jab, you have time, night temps are still low and you will catch up just fine. If you need some seeds, email me and I'll give you my address. The melons are fun to grow and you'll have a ball growing them. iceoccasions@bellsouth.net good luck, Todd

It's absolutely true that you have plenty of time to grow a giant melon. The sooner you start the better off you will be though. It's really a lot of fun.

Mark you are right again. He has time to grow a 200 pounder. I don't think he wants to grow competitively. All he said was he is "thinking of trying to grow big watermelons". 200 pounds is pretty big I think.

Jabrontic, if you will read through this forum you will find lots of advice on growing the biggest watermelons. And there are plenty of growers on here who are willing to share seeds. If you'd like some from me please email me at: coolvol@comcast.net

Thanks alot guys. Not looking to be competitive this year. Looking for a learning experience this year and to see where it goes from there.

Lots of time to grow a big one. Our 222 was pollinated @ the 3rd week of July. Bill Donkers doesn't start his seeds until the dirt warms up in late May. Good luck

Come on guy's, I know a 200lb melon is not a world record, but it's still competetive. The Pa state record was grown in 1998 at 191 lbs, unless it was beaten last year. I think a new state record is pretty competetive.

Plenty of time. Its not even June yet. Rather be pushing them than to try to keep them from rotting.

Its NOT to late !!!! At 70 days old , mine were all well over 200 lbs. So if you have a late sept or early oct weighoff, then pollination between july 15 -30 will give you a winning fruit !

Yeah, I guess Jabronitc will change his mind about looking to be competitive if he breaks the Pa state record.

The man still needs some seeds though. Don't we have any members in Pa close enough to spare some extra plants with this grower?
