I have heard that you did a deep hole and prep the dirt for the hole...not the patch like kinZ.....for WmelonZ....
True? What Ph do they prefer? Any special ammendments that they like over kinZ?

I have a 235 DonkerZ...and a 222 HUNT to work with this year.....

Do they like hoop houseZ?

Most of the roots are in the top 2 inches of soil. So digging a deep hole for your dirt isn't necessary. They like very warm to hot temps so a hoop house would help to provide that.They are (kins & melons) both cucurbits so I think the amendments and PH requirements are pretty much the same. Watermelons don't need but about 300' sq to grow in.

Does one bury vineZ?

Last year I sprayed them with some of the same foliar sprayZ just to see...they seem to like it all.....

Mine got AZo and BiotaMax in the pot....

They germed in 5 days at 87 and had to be repotted (5" peater) in 7 days due to roots coming out of the bottom.

IS there a main? Do we look for a keeper where? or just lettem Grow.

How many on a single plant?

As you can see....I need an email address for an expert.....lol but you might want to ask Master Wallace about the wiZ and hiZ questions..... I can email.....lol

But this year...I wanna kick the good Dr's butt in something, over and over again this year........watermelonZ iZ gonna be one of thoZe shoeZ....PepoZ iZ next...and kinZ too...lol Good Dr....do you read the melonZ posts too.....lol guess we will see....

AI think the best growers do bury vines lightly to encourage rooting. There is a main or even 2 mains if you want to grow a plant that way. Generally we grow one to a plant but that is debatable as growers have grown 2 and even 3 melons on the same vine and had good results.

They like hoop house & heat!we bury vines in the North but can cause rot & disease in the south! we generally set fruit out 8 feet or more,but who knows,some let plant grow wild(spaghetti style)some train vines like kins,Its really open to debate at this point which is best,I would give a plant at least 12x15 area no less,most prefer 15x20.they say PH about6-7.some say lower.seedlings are sensitive to ferts you will kill them if you go heavy,keep stump high & dry intill plant is 6 inchs long if you bury stem they will rot!Im no expert but this is info collected from the gang!You can E-mail Bill,Chris marvin or Myself with any Questions I will shoot there addresseZZ if you send a request Good Luck! Well I aint seen no CoJoe entreeZ in here yet so......heZ the one I am after to beat.....lol He iZ growing a few this ...a new contest for us Colorado localZ. Last year at the weigh off....I brought my very first one....it waZ the biggest melon I had seen even from the storeZ........a skinny 68 lbs....then this guy named BIGBUCK...brought his in from MN...at around 98 pds....so I cant wait to see a big one long as itZ mine and not CoJoeZ.....lol

Yah see...for the longest time....the Good Dr waZ the only game in town....now thereZ some new dogZ on the block.....lol

I have checked into adding a watermelon to the RMGVG logo.....cuZ it needZ to be there...but Im not having a lot of success.....convincing my daughter to do it.....Ill have to throw $$$ at her....

They say Colorado is the melon state....(Rocky Ford Cantelope)......perhaps we can compete in this arena....we are gonna find out.....might be able to get me a watermelon coat.....
