What is the preferred choice in deciding male and female pollinators for the overall size of the melon? In other words is it better that your best choice is a female pollinated with a male or vice-versa?Iam trying different scenarios like everyone else, but also crossing in separate case my better choice cc,s with the strain that thrives in Turkey. Those plants from what I have seen thus far are alot differant. The leaves are longer (over 15 inches long already)but the individual leaf sections are more narrow. Also the females I have seen are 2-3 cent long accross the width or middle of the melon as they appear almost round. The goal was to cross these big round type melons with the longer cc,s, and I wanted to know if the better was female turkey type pollinated with cc male or vice-versa.Sorry it has taken me this long of a text to get out what Iam asking.Thanks...

I'd say try both ways and then next year see which performs best and possibly even recross them a second time.

They typically get 100 plus pounds with little to average care. The length 2 to 2 1/2 feet is common, but the girth is quite large 60 inches is not uncommon. As you can imagine, they do not get much care in Turkey. I am hoping with special care they could do well.

I will soon open a growers diary and will post some pics. Also happy day discovery, found (2) females with new blooms unopened as of yet on my 157 bright ,that measure a solid 4cm.Looks like maybe a nice solid year weather and rookie mistakes set aside.LOL.Also have comparable size male flowers that have nice long 8 inch stems with huge 2 inch diameter blooms. It sounds like everyone is having a decent season so far! Thanks for everyones input and help.
