if i want to raise a couple of seed melons. can i pollinate two or three melons on the same vine from different males and have different crosses. i am not growing these for size just to get the cross for future years

Yes,Doesn't take long to get a melon with viable seeds. You can save culls that are hand pollinated, maybe bad vine position or something. I cut two hand pollinated ones last year that where to close to the stump and saved the seeds. Easy to germinate also.

Probally need 30+ days for the seeds to be viable. You can then keep the melon for awhile after picking to let them ripen some more. They probally all won't be ready, but enough for a lifetime of plantings.

The only thing is plants can sometimes be a little fickle about setting melons. A small plant with 2 growing melons on it will sometimes decide that is all it wants to grow for some length of time. In other words it is possible you may have to wait for awhile to get the number of melons you want.
