okay hear we go i got my cantelope next to my melon and my 55 james is going good,but my 291 kent is at 2 foot at most and dont seem to want to go ,i put seaweed and fish emolshin every week plus some kelp powder diluted,what else can i do to get the thing going ,??? water more im at twice a day about 2 gallons a day!!! pics are in diary will be up tommorow hoprfully ,also should i go back to a plastic tunnel to get it going or is it to hot !!! temps are at 80-90 this week??? everything around it is growing tomatos ,sunflowers,and potatos, thanks for any help !!! pizza

Pete just a few ideas here. I know that here in CT it has been very wet with little sunshine for most of June. My melons grew slowly also. The past week has had much more favorable conditions for growth. You should be seeing some improvement.
I actually like my soil to be a little on the drier side for good melon growth, you may find that cutting back on the water will help. I have not needed to water my plants since back in May. If all that fails give them a little push with a higher nitrogen fertilizer. Good luck

I agree With Big moon if plants are small back off on water maybe 1/2 gallon twice a day

When Melons start vining put some cotton seed meal in soil ahead of plant if 2 feet I would work in soil out 3 feet.They dont need much when little it may be to hot for them(soil).That can slow them down & even kill them!Everthing should already be in the soil if you did amendments!Im not doing much fertlizing this year!Ken Sweet stated its all in the soil, so why put more?Made sense to me!Everytime I feed my kins I come out with scorched leaves!Im going fishing & let nature do its thing! good luck Pete!Ok now who disagrees with me lol

im sure my soil is not the greatest,i will have to do a soil test this fall,got big plans for getting some new soil,and makeing lots of compost , i looked this morning and noticed the potatos sre blocking it from full sun,there comeing out this week,i did notice i went fishing and after two days no water it grew so the water trick is helping gonna try 2 days light water then skip a day !!! thanks guys!!! pizza

Pete, sounds like way too much water for such a small plant. I would add some ferts & only water every other day.
