It appears that the pollinations were successful, now that the fruit are growing, what shape fruit are we looking for, the best shape?

Uniform, they say short & fat Weigh heavy, long & thin go light, your looking for long & fat!!Its hard to compare when small so I would try for uniform shapes!pollinate them all then sort shapes later when soup can size,I pinch off if plant is too small or if shape is odd when they first appear on plant,

Avoid narrow bloosom ends, will straighten out some if its a little narrower on the stem end. Narrow bloossom end just gets worse and really hurts the final length. Go for long but that doesn't mean visually long. You have to keep close measurements to know if it is long or not. Like I have got one that looks long and slim, one looks short and fat, but the measurements show the fat one is acctually longer at 7 days 10days etc. The choice is obvious.

Thats what Im talking about, Long can be an illusion!Chris Kent said anything over 7/8s of an inch at pollination time is good, longer is better or 2 centimeters if your a Metric Man.

I use to pick long looking ones. This year I've got a big fat one that is acctually longer than any melon I have ever had at pollination, 7day and 10 day. Probablly would have cut it off a few years ago. But I would agree I would take length over girth at this point if the measurements showed good length and it was close in OTT.
