At this point, I have several fruit growing per plant, is it better to cull the "extra" early?
I've heard that you can wait, but how long is too long?
Thanks.

That should be big enough to support 3-4 melons in till you chart growth pace & decide which one to keep!I would try to pick by the time there Qt jar to 2 liter size!Ok Who dis agrees???LOL

If you're pollinating a second fruit on the same main do you think about it differently? I have one a week old melon at six feet and then a new one at nine on a reasonably young plant.not really sure the new one took yet. Does someone on that main need to be removed soon?

Tom, If they are on different vine, then you can wait alot longer. Usually by day 10-15 you know which is better. If they are on the same vine, the 1st will take all/most of the juice if they are more then a few days difference in age. Bottom line, i cull when a melon doesn't make the mark. Example, A is 15 lbs at day 10, B is 13 lbs at day 10. Cut B. Then C is 16 lbs at day 10, cut A.
Now there are other things that go into the desision, its not just a weight only choice. I have keep the smaller one.
