I was having a lot of trouble setting melons early on this season. It seems like the ones I deadheaded took better to setting on.I don't believe melon growth is affected much one way or the other.

I do fell a grower will grow a bigger melon if he or she will limit vine size to between 150 - 300 sq ft.

My melon vines are climbing the walls,Do I cut vines,or let them go,every cut opens plant to disease,I cant see any gain by cutting vines,only benefit is to keep bottom leaves from being buried alive!!The lawn mower will get them,or they will grow into the river!!LOL

Dewight, center vine growth will be stimulated if you trim off a few perimeter vines.

Yes Mark, deadhead your fruit. Start with the biggest, that way more little ones will grow !

That's excellent advice from the world record holder. Please deadhead all your melons Mark. Just think of all the new melons you'll be able to start. And oh, I have some excellent ocean front property and the Golden Gate bridge for sale if you are interested. LOL
