So is the big prize for the first 300 pound melon or the largest for the season over 300 pounds ? Is the contest limited to 2011 if a 300 pound melon isn't grown next year ? In other words do we know yet if this is open the the first 300 pound melon grown in any year ?

remember, all our regular season prize levels (1-20 place) will also be there to win. The 300 is within ANYONES reach.
Todd Dawson's melon measured over 300 lbs this year. His previous season best was 211. So ANYONE can do it !! Get out there and grow !

Wow, so that is a total of $3,000.00 if the club money is still 1,000.00 for first prize. Not to mention any GPC money awarded. Wowzers !!!! OK, but I would still enjoy the prestige more than the money involved. That is super good though. Chris, is the Great White award money limited to GWG members or is it open to the public ?

I think a $2,000.00 prize may attract a lot of pumpkin growers to our club. Will you club officers be doing any posts to the pumpkin growers discussion forum about the Great White offer? I think membership mat explode with all the potential growers who may join and try to cash in on this big prize. Also, if any of you guys ( Chris, Mark, Bill and Marvin)will be speaking at any grower seminars this winter I see excellent opportunity to recruit new members by mentioning this potential windfall. You guys are doing wonderfully and have already considered these things. But you know me; I am always adding my 2 cents worth.

There is also a 300$ award for a new world record. That makes it $ 3,300 for a melon over 300 lbs & largest of the season.

Plus whatever money the GPC is offering at the local level for the first place the melon will take at a weigh-off.

I was just on the Giant Watermelon Growers website. I know it has been recently complimented and probably deserved the praise. But I was not overly impressed with it. It seemed we had added Great White as an advertiser and that was about it. Now I go there and it seems to me that our website has grown up a lot. Especially with the addition of the $2,000.00 offer. I heard I could go ahead and join for next year and decided to pay with Paypal and expected to pay a little extra for the Paypal fee. Well guess what; it was free of extra charges. My total was for only $20. Is it supposed to be like fellows or do I owe you another dollar or so ? Anyway, currently a great website for it's short time of existence. Keep up the good work Guys and also Caroline Kent who helps with the website I do believe. Bravo !

With the rise in our annual fee to $20 I was thinking that seed sales would probably not do too good in the coming year. What with the bad economy and all I thought the doubling of membership fees would probably put a good dent in the willingness of growers to shell out a fair amount of money for a proven seed. Now I am thinking totally opposite. With all the prize money available I think more growers will join the club and try to grow next year. To have a shot at big money a grower will have to have a seed capable of growing a world record. So I now feel the club should do very well in seed sales for this coming season. GWG Unlimited !

Wowzerz...hard to believe...$1800 on elec bill, and no lights in wacky shorts? Whats up w/ dat? LOL Peace, Wayne
PS...Deb,...just tried it and, thumb tacks don't work well on my fridge???

U sed ur frige wuz wooden, Wayne.

In that case thumbtacks should've worked just fine!

Use the duct tape then but be careful not to cover any of the writing on the receipt when you put it up there.

Only time you're allowed to let things hang naturally, fellers, is when you wear a kilt. Beware of patch rash in weird places and kamikaze skeeter bites in weirder places though when weedin!
