The more up to date edition of my watermelon book is "Winner's Guide to Watermelon Festival Giants." It was published in 2008 and is available through my website, P & P seeds, and extremepumpkinstore.com. When growers are listed by record holder groups, lots of especially good growers who have grown huge watermelons are not recognized. I like that James White maintains an extensive list of all of the extra large watermelons and the respective growers over the recent era. The GWG photo gallery also is excellent. Most growers seem to select step goals like reaching 200, 225, 250, or 300 pounds. New growers tend to start with a goal of 200 pounds. It would be good to have a formal way to recognize growers as they reach various levels.

The past 25 years or so are listed below, which I believe to be correct. To go back further, as suggested see Lloyd's book...
260 Bright 1985
262 Carson 1990
268.8 Bright 2005
291 Kent 2010

"It would be good to have a formal way to recognize growers as they reach various levels." I agree, and am sorta workin on it!!! How would 3.5" x 3.5 " patches work? Sew em on the front of yer hat, or on the sleeve of yer jacket!!! 200 # Melon Club...225# Melon Club, etc!!!Or, would a lil patch be an informal way? Now awl I need is advise on a good patch makin site!!!! LOL Peace, Wayne

That is interesting Wayne. I think something like that is not for everyone. Personally I think it is something I might like.
It would be nice to make something like that available to interested club members who are willing to pay the cost of it.I don't think it is a cost the club should pick up.Just my two cents.

I will suggest if the patches are just under 3" height wise, width they can go wider, I can sew them out much easier... and would be hopefully doing weight patches, and, custom patches. You can have your name, weight, and year on one; so you can wear your PB's on a sleeve! Or your hat or your jacket.
