I think that is a good way to go 1320. I have send seeds in a regular envelope several times. Of course that would be for common seeds. I wouldn't think of sending a 255 or 239 in that manner.

Yes, if not in a bubble it goes through a roller system that can crush seeds.

The roller system when working properly will not crush seeds or anything for that matter. The belts are set up very loose to accomodate the varying thickness of hundreds of thousands of mailpieces. Because the belts are set so loose, if daily adjustments aren't made (sometimes hourly adjustments are needed) the belts will slip off a roller wheel and break/jam. With the belt off, the rollers are exposed and mail spacing is lost. The mail is actually "pinched" off between two belts as it progresses thru the machine. When the mail reaches the break, it cannot continue and simply jambs as soon as the void between the two rollers is filled. Sometimes the machines sensors will shut the machine down, sometimes the operator has to manually shut it down via a kill switch, either way, at a rate of 40,000+ pieces per hour, running the machine for even a split second after the break allows alot of mail to arrive at one spot at one time.

It doesn't happen often so I don't hesitate to send seeds in a regular envelope, even pumpkin seeds will make it. However, I agree with TD, premium seeds need bubble protection.

I can't advocate mailing seeds in a regular envelope without giving this one piece of advice:

Position the seeds so that they "ride" at the top of your envelope. Taping them is best. If you use a coin envelope, tape it to the inside of the mailing envelope, that works well. Try to keep the seeds in one layer, especially pumpkin seeds.

In the aforementioned explanation, the belts grab and hold the bottom of the envelope, the belt is about two inches wide.
