It seems to change each year.What do you think will be the hottest seed this year?I think the Hottest seed this year will be the 291 Kent.Its getting center stage in the Melon cave with the 228 Clementz on the right.same cross as 291(remake).The 260.5 on the left.I think the 228 maybe the sleeping giant.I think the 255 will do real well this year,but I dont think it will take 1st.Its anybodys guess.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 239 Leonard sneaks in there with another giant melon or two. But you are right Mark. I think there are many genetic combinations that could raise a giant melon or three.

I agree, Of course you'll always see a few that stand out. But so many great crosses were made I think you will see more different seeds growing big melons. As for the 291, a seeds first year out is rarely its best. The 291 has amazing potential. The 255 is a great seed, but it took a few years for everyone to realize just how good.

The 165 Cantrell, looks good with genetics, 255 marv x 251 mudd, crossed with 260 bright x 255 conrad in its background. First seed 251 POUNDS it's already hot and geeting hotter all the time. It will come down to what we plant.

i've started some seeds and the first seed to germ was the 182 vanhook(267 plesant x 35kent)dont no witch one was next,but 10hrs later the 178 mudd,255 mitchell,291 kent and the 260 handjob had a root to.the 182 mite a sleeper

I think I will surprise everyone with the 194.5 Mudd 2008 (231 Mitchell x 255 Mitchell) I am growing the 291 and the 282 also.

I think you may be right Scott. The 231 Mitchell grew my best melon last year (204.5) and we all know what the 255 is capable of.

Hot seed---165(B) Cantrell---- had a BUNCH of requests and they've been filled.

Overlooked seeds---35 Kent & 209 Kent---The best of both haven't been grown yet.

I really like some from MI, TX NC, KY & GA also. I need a bigger patch!!
