If this weather doesn't change, I think I'm going to put a plant in the ground very soon. I tried an experiment with a seed on Feb. 19th, by completely removing seed coat, then starting in wet paper towel. 12 hours later it had a sprout. It's got a first leaf starting on it now. I've never even thought about starting one this early, but what the hay. So, if nothing happens in the next week or so, my first melon this year will be a 228 Clementz.

You will do good if we have a hot spring,if we have a cold spring you might not do so well.Good luck in 2012!

Praying for everyone in the eastern tornado belt. They are revving up early. So early they did our first citywide siren tests of the season today, a month early. Hoping everyone stays safe.

We made it through here with no damage. It got very loud for a while, but other than moving some stuff around, too bad.

Things were fine here too. It did get a little dicey a couple of times though.

Tornadoes hit about 5 miles south of me. All kinds of debris on my farm. Lost electric here until this evening. Now I'm fighting to keep $200 worth of Angelfish alive... I left my house and went to a friend basement. I took my melon seeds, my autographed Molly Hatchet albums and coin collection with me :)

Started the new screenhouse today 50 degrees, framing foundation in driveway.staking my perimeter for Kin Cave.Typically we would have snow ice & no way be nice enough to start cave. The ground isn't frozen I pushed a stake in patch 10 inch's no problem.

Robins been here all winter. Saw first red wings today. Big flocks. Hope they all keep goin' north. Corn eatin' buggers.

Also saw swarms of seed corn maggot flies. Never paid attention to them before. I figure this is the first generation.

Nail those maggot flies, they are a real pain!

Decided to wait a few days to start the greenhouse, and hubby volunteered to do my carpentry stuff. Very nice of him. The interior braces are quite simple, been dealing with him wanting to overengineer this thing... :) Gotta love him, he just wants to help!

The storms sort of parted and veered, still waiting for our snow.
