The GWG has been very busy planning for things this year, and very excited to present the "trophy of HOPE"
This new "floating" trophy will be presented to the champion, with his/her name, melon weight, year, and state, engraved on the bottom. The winner will keep the trophy for that year, and box it up and mail it to the next years champion. This should be very exciting, and be a bragging right to get the trophy to your state or providence. Things are looking awesome for the members of the GWG, and now the chase for the trohpy of HOPE begins.
Best of luck this year.

Members must be in good standing by June 1st 2012 to be eligible. Watermelons must be weighed at GPC sanctioned weigh-off. If it looks like a watermelon and it is undamaged.... it counts!!

Good Luck to all in 2012..... let's grow some BIG Melons!!

I am not sure where you guys got the idea to call it the trophy of HOPE; but, I think it is brilliant. I mean the Brights have more watermelon world records than anyone else and they are from the city of Hope. Did this play in your thought process or is it just coincidence ?

I mean it could have as easily been called the trophy of accomplishment.

Anyway it is something that will mean a lot more than cold hard cash to whoever wins it. It will be something to be very proud of. :o)

Hey Dennis it did, When you think Big melons, you think of Hope AR. Also we all have hope of growing the big one, so I think it all work out great.

There is a very large rock nearby with something of a watermelon shape to it. Perhaps if I find a good artist to put a good watermelon look paint job on it..............lol

Thanks Todd, I thought that might have had something to do with it. I am glad we are paying tribute to the family whose efforts helped to found this great sport. And thanks again for getting Lloyd on the team.

The GWG will have the engraving done on a new small plate for the bottom of the trophy and have it shipped to the new champion. The previous winner will send the trophy to the new champion. The new champion will put the newly engraved plate on the trophy. Shine, buff, and then smile proudly!!

GWG's inaugural year was 2011...so the first plate belongs to Todd, this was one of the reasons he was the chosen board member to start the trophy for the club. Todd will mail the trophy to the 2012 winnger....or just keep it for his 2nd year!! It's a long ways to October....so grow them Big and let's see who the 2012 winner of the Trophy of Hope will be!! Good Luck to All!!

GWG, wasn't the GWG an organized group when Chris set the NWR? Started membership drive, b/4 Yadkin Valley Weighoff, I could be wrong? Please let me know! If, by way of chance...this is correct, then shouldn't his name be the first name on the trophy? Even if wrong...I would suggest it be there, along w/ Mr. Bright's 268 (is this correct weight)?
PS...Mark, says GWG Rocks, cause I told him to say it!!!! LOL Peace, Wayne
Seriously not wanting to rock the boat, just thinkin that just dues, are needed to be carved, somewhere!!

No PW! The Club was not formed till Jan & Feb of 2011,I was posting on BP that the club should be started in DEC/2010!Chris Kents World Record 291 winning 150$ plus local cash @ Bear Waller is what inspired me to start the GWG.

I wanted to give Todd a plaque for his 282 my request was ignored.I also feel Chris should of got a World Record Plaque.Did he get one from GPC?

It's AWL GOOD PW! The club is headed in a good direction now!All these great prizes's & awards is what I was trying to do in the first place. It's funny now there doing it.LOL!Heres a tip Wayne if you have an idea E-Mail it to the committe. If they like it they will make it happen.Putting it on here is pointless. It will almost insure it doesn't happen.I'm not good at this either but that's how it works.I'm not the sharpest marble in the bag but I did figure this one out.lol
GWG ROCKS!!!IT'S AWL GOOD! PWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

The GWG committee has discussed this latest post...and would like to thank it's members for bringing up a great point.

We are pleased to announce that the trophy will have 3 plaques to start 2012...

Llyod Bright's 268 lb World Record in 2005 will be the first plaque... it makes it a great starting point considering he is from Hope, Arkansas!!

The second plaque would be the current World Record holder... Chris Kent and his 291 lb melon from 2010.

The third plaque will be the current GWG champion, Todd Dawson and his 282 lb melon from 2011.

We hope this meets with our members approval.... and we do read the posts and will comment when we have discussed the issue with the board members. Good Luck to all this year!!
