Are the black spots on the cots or stems or where ? Perhaps if you posted a picture it would help the diagnosis.

I posted a pic but needs approved... They are on the true leaves. I've never seen this with hundreds of other watermelon plants.

doesn't sound good, but i never had any problems like that on the 291's or any others. I'll wait to see the pictures.
