Dr. S. Older (my next door neighbor--aka in our neighborhood as Cantankerous T. Curmudgeon)showed up at my backdoor this morning before sunrise. He was, according to my wife, demanding to see "her smartassed husband" while adding vile and slanderous judgments about my character and worth.
A little background is needed: Upon my return to CONUS in March, I had tried to sell him on the merits of Great White Shark additive. He finally agreed (reluctantly) to use some of MY gws on two hills.
The old professor had returned late last night from a week at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Mn. (He got a remarkably good report for one 91 years old) Up early to inspect his patches, he found the two GWS vines to be almost twice as large as any others.
Our history includes several instances in which I have been accused of certain skullduggeries. ((I am not entirely innocent in a few of them)).
I was mostly still asleep when he pointed a bony finger at me and loosed a string of expletives. The gist of his complaint: In his absence, I had dug up the two gws-treated vines and replaced them with much older and larger vines that I had planted in some remote Eden with the intent of making just such a felonious swap.
He got really PO'd when I couldn't control my laughter. He left vowing to never darken my door again and ordering me never to set foot on his property again, reminding me that he had a dog named Gun and a gun named Dog.
He'll be back--when he needs another ridge to town.
Thought some of you might get a kick out of this. Regards, Clutch
