That shouldn't hurt it*(melon).Get a live trap & put a nice red mater in it or some ripe cantalope. If you can find there path in the weeds put the trap on there path.

i would try to set 1st before culling. depends on how much time you have till your weighoff. the hole may be ok, hard to say without seeing.

Play a radio in the patch! If you have to go to work and family members are home, have them watch for the wood chuck or rabbit,so you can figure out whats doing it.Get some chicken wire & put a fence around the fruit,or build a box to set over fruit I grew my 191 in a wooden box 2 years ago.I would bet a woodchuck.

The birds have been pecking holes in my pumpkins and melons. I have to cover the melons as soon as I see them.

I knew the voles were chewing on my melon vines some but had not seen any sign of it until this morning. I knew it was happening because it has been hot and dry and my cats keep bringing dead ones onto my front porch to show to me. I was removing the landscaping fabric from around my 285 Edwards this morning and noticed some of it's vines had chew marks on them. I have removed melon after melon from the 285 due to poor shapes and now have a nice long one set. It should be my first long melon since my 207 in 2009. It was 39.5" long and 207 pounds when the vine went down at 60 days. It may take a miracle to keep the stump healthy on this one but I want to give the plant a lot better chance to root. You just can't have a long fat melon without the long part and if your melon is not long it isn't going to be a top melon. This one is a little late but I am excited about it. I hope the vine lasts and I am able to fatten it up by early October. I hope to take this melon to the Allardt weigh-off.

I discoved a few marks, put out 4 containers of mouse and rat poison. Came back next day, 2 of the containers were mostly empty and some missing in the others. Hope it does the trick.
