I can pick a melon in the store! but i do not know when to pick on the vine ? Best flavor & texture ? Thanks in advance !!

Ok

When the quirl or tendril near the stem turns brown, the melon is ripe.

Crimson sweet is about an 85 day melon. If you know your plant date, even if they were transplants, you can do the math and get close on the early sets. The stem should "slip" or snap off at the melon without a great deal of up pressure. If its firmly attached leave them another week. They will hold in the field just fine. Keep watering. If they start to sunburn just a little your probably getting REAL close. My customers have found out that the faded ones are better than the ones that look like a picture.

Like Dave I always mark my calender days to maturity in advance then I will know when to start checking them.I do this on all my stuff. In the store I always look for the melon with the oldest looking bottom(most aged).

A fully dead tendril is almost a certain sign they are ripe, the sunburn thing seems true also I just ate one that was sunburned and it tasted better than the other ones I have tasted on the same plant that were not sunburned.
