Has anyone heard what the interior of the record melon looked like? I was reading some old posts and I found this interesting conversation about crossbreeding C.C's for a more solid melon http://www.bigpumpkins.com/MsgBoard/ViewThread.asp?b=30&p=385534
I do remember hearing that Gabriele Bartoli believed the 245 had some Crimson sweet genes in the seed. I wouldn't think a crimson sweet would add to size but you never know with genetics.

Given the OTT's of the 326 and 307 I would say they were likely very solid. Just from what I have seen from crossing two varieties, the first year you get some that favor both parents. The seeds from those melons produce many different sizes and colors. The 245 can grow some huge melons for sure, but I wonder if there was some offspring that was much smaller in size.

Jake,I think growing the Bartoli seeds will be like a crap shoot. But the potential should be there for a world record. IMHO

So the actual seeds to grow may be the 326 and 307. The genetics will likely be more isolated with the offspring from them. Maybe? Or what if the 245's power is from it's hybrid nature, and the desired trait and vigor are best in the first generation. It will be interesting to see how things pan out this year.
