Just a hypothetical question here? If you had a 1600$ purse for melons how would you split up?How many places would you pay?and how much for each place.Please be specific.

I don't know how many places you want to payout but here's a couple options:
Paying 1st through 10th
1st=500,350,250,150,100,75,75,50,25,25

Paying 1st through 10th with site record bonus
1st=500,300,200,100,75,75,50,50,25,25 +200 if there's a new site record.

I cheated alittle, I converted another Club's payouts to percentages and applied it to the $1600 and added a couple small twists:
1st 400
2nd 275
3rd 200
4th 175
5th 125
6th 100
7th 75
8th 50
9th 40
10th 30

First place winer receives a $30 plaque.

Annual Worldwide Giant Growers Club record--$100.

The 2013 1st place winner will automatically win the $100
since it will be the Club's initial record.

First place winner for 2013 will receive $400, plus the
$100 for club record and a $30 plaque. If my math is correct--that's your $1600.

This is Mark's show, he can do anything he wants

to do. Your suggestion is very good. But I believe

the achievement of growing a world's record will be

acknowleged and be worth more than the $250 you suggest,

even if it doesn't happen this year, there will be an

additional $100.00 up for grabs...

I'm just trying to generate more members by including a

$100 bonus for the first year winner, which will be the

Club's record and an additional $100.00 bonus, along with

1st place finish and the new Club's record---a cool $500.00

and a #30.00 plaque.....

It's Awl good I love all the suggestions.We need to throw these out on forums, to find a common ground.I guess this wasn't so hypothetical after all as I have decided to pay 10 places on all 7 classes.The question is the amount put in.I will announce this next week.I think world record money may come from our next Sponsor.I feel there are many more to come as we are very young at 3 months old.

No problem at all, just having fun.

When I suggested 250 for world record that person would also be entitled to the first place award that way the cash amount if won would be 500 for 1st place plus 250 if the 1st place took the world record.

So if someone took first place but did not grow the world record they would only get 500, but if the also grew the world record they would get a total of 750.00

I like the idea of a plaque or trophy. What whould the cost be for those is up to Mark and how big he wants to go. Maybe a floating trophy for a year with name on it.

Gee Wiz Mark,

Do you really think less than $50.00 is weak for 9th and 10th places? The payout structure I suggested was based upon percentages on the payouts of an established Club, a Club that you are competing against.

I understand you don't want to be a copy cat, but I think it's okay to borrow an idea from them and change it around to make it your own....Hey, they have been doing it alot longer than you.....and it works for them....

You want to wait until you get 40 members to give out a plaque........I'll donate the plaque to your club if it will help.

Come on Mark let's move on....

Jim,You cant do everything everybody wants at one time.It's not possible.To be honest I want to give plaques for every class.Sometimes these posts get real ugly & are mis interpreted by many.So posting on here is risky and some wont do it for that reason.To be honest I would like to sell my house & put the 50 grand in the the prize pool.Thanks to this economy that's all its worth.I stated on website WWGG would supply plaques at 40 entries.The giant pumpkin class is almost there.The melon class is not far behind as I know 6 guys who haven't paid yet I know they will join.The new plan to pay 10 places will kick in next week and I will change the progressive system to paying 11th place then 12th and so on.We cant do it all over night & I plan to add bonus prizes as more sponsors come on board all year long.So lets say I find a sponsor in July,entry is closed to cash awards,but I may still announce our new garden pants sponsor & add prizes then.The point I'm long winded in making here is.We need to leave room for the sponsors as the sky is the limit & we never stop looking for new deals.So baby steps grasshopper is my method.BuTT heres the BIG BUTTT! LOL I will most likely never post a prize under 50$,even though some are there now on site I know they will grow as members come the prize rises!So In guess $25 is ok to start but I would like final payouts to be at least 50$ enough said!It's not a big factor anyway.

I really wasnt looking to debate small differences in amounts I was hoping to get an idea what the majority like.I guess the question should really be do you build 3-5 big prizes or do folks want 10 to say 20 places eventually paid??Please keep making suggestions if you would & lets not debate the differences as it's not productive and leads to nonesense.

Y'all wanta really juice up the competition, not to mention the membership rolls?

Biggest melon gets the biggest trophy and $10. Next biggest melon gets a slightly smaller trophy and $15 and so on and so forth.
THEN:
15th largest melon gets $1000. 14th melon gets $200
13th melon gets $50 and so on until there's only enough left to buy the trophies. Had to stop there-higher math makes mah head hurt.

Jeb, Mark's club is very young and growing very well. I think there will be well over 30 melon members this year. Mark has a good knack for growing new sponsors and memberships. I will be joining soon for sure. I vote to spread the money out to give the lesser growers more hope of winning a little something.

Yes it will be fun,of that I'm sure.There will be random prizes & such all will have a chance to win something.Most likely there will be picture holding plagues & SWEET ROSETTA S given out in all classes.I cant commit to everything at one time.My goal is to please the majority,I think most will be very pleased this year.There will be a raffle April 1st where members win books,shirts,products,aprox 10 prizes will be given out.This is among other prizes already given.Nobody has put a plant in the ground yet and we have winners of prizes.So what more can a membership do.

I like Jebs layout cause I feel I could be in the top 3,but most folks dont have that same confidence.So to keep it a majority membership.I'm really likeing Afveterans layout.I think his will work & even the 75 for plaques & sweet rosettas for the top 3.When we hit 40 places like discussed on site I will make it progressive and start paying 11th place & so on to 100 like stated.We will also start adding Sweet rosettas so when we hit 50 members in melon class I will give rosettas to top 5.then progressive at 100 members in melon class we will have Sweet Rosetta s for top 10.Lets make this official layout right now with a 1600$ purse for Worldwide Giant watermelon class!WATCH FOR RISING PRIZES!!
