Had a couple last year but can't remember which plants. See them quite often in commercial patch. Never payed any attention to them until I started growing AG's and heard all the talk about doubles and ribbons.

had one double for a leaf section or two, it fixed itself without a problem.

I get these "ribbon double header stems" when I plant a new
area, & everything is perfect-perfect-perfect. I also found that I get bigger melons, & second crops in the fall. It
basically means you've got a real healthy plant

A few replies:

Chris, You are as hard as woodpecker lips (turning the entire area with a shovel), best of luck with your new patch and home, I expect a new record this year from you.

Brotherdave, I have never seen a double vine on the CC. I grew commercial for three years and never paid attention to it then. I did one year have an albino black diamond and I lost the seed somewhere along the way.

Andy, I hope it stays a double vine until I can set a melon on one of them.

Larry, I hope you are right, this plant is growing in 2 yards of horse manure and about 1 ton of compost.

1SG, please tell me your May 24 photo was taken long before May 24? Otherwise did your plant grow that much from May 24 to June 9? How long would you say it took to do that?

WD, The dates are correct. After following TN Dreamer with all his soil issues last year, I spent most of the winter working on my soil. Each one of the four plants is sitting on 1 ton of manure, 1 ton of compost and 1/2 ton of sand.

My cousin is a professor in the AG Dept. at Auburn and he came up with my watering, fertilizer and spraying plan to maximize root growth. So far so good. I am still growing four plants like I have in the past, if you look in the upper right corner of the photo you can see one of the other plants growing the old way. It was transplanted one week after the 267 and 274.

Wow, you are definitely doing something right there bro. That is truly amazing. Yes, I can see that plant in the upper right is much smaller. Even a week behind if it were growing at the same rate it would be about half the size of the 267 and 274. Have you figured out how many inches those vines can add in a day? I might make another post about that because this makes me curious what kinds of daily vine growth people get.
