The large watermelons at the Hope festival were for display and promotion. The largest I took to display and sell weighed 181. There should be some decent watermelons at the Washington, AR weigh-off on August 31st. The weather here has been much better this summer.

Loyd Bright and family are true giant watermelon LEGENDS! ONE SEED ONE PLANT has ALWAYS been the standard! IMHO grafted plants are nothing more than the equivalent of PED'S in today's athletics! They are GMO's IMHO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our right Spudley Llyod and his family are class acts. But, the only advantage too grafting is your stumps rot twice as fast. The true evil has yet to be mentioned.

I've got a suggestion, have two classes. One enhanced and one regular. Kind of like they do it in bodybuilding. After years of everyone denying the use of PEDs in the sport and the impossible task of catching them. They made two separate classes. Let the sponsorship money fall where it may. Then I think you will see where the real interest is. Regular/Enhanced? Just a thought.

The key to growing grafts is on plastic, so the scion don't root down. Otherwise the graft is useless and you'll end up with mushy stumps. Gabrielle Bartoli grows his on plastic if I understand correctly. Grafting is more practical in commercial fields than growing giants IMHO. Once the grafting band wagon has passed through I think you'll see less next year. If it weren't for growers like the Bright's watermelons wouldn't be where they are today that's for sure.

Josh are you talking about the node roots? The stump rot was not GSB related, all the other plants are fine. I can see what your saying because there is way to much water going to the plant from the roots. It started leaking clear water a while ago. Drilling holes, fans, etc. Haven't even come close to stopping it. Right now the melon is growing solely off node roots, but suprisingly still gaining weight.

I've toyed with grafts since 2008 and the ones growing on plastic don't seem to foam up.The ones not on plastic the stumps look like they're sweating, maybe too much water from node roots? My grafted lope is kicking but though, around 3 lbs a day.

My graft looks great on weed barrier.I dont understand the big deal about grafting.We will try it and see what happens.My 291 grafted Kent is the Beefiest melon I have ever seen.Lots of Fun the 255 Mitchell aint to shabby either.Now LaWanna shes a traditnal gal.Im haveing a stump issue with her.theres a hole in the stump.Not effecting the growth though.Im interested to see what the growth does in the final push.Remember theres nothing normal about any of the Giants were growing.There all freaks!Man made Freaks!
