My daughter and I have several melons in the 130 lb range and all of the plants still look good and are growing like crazy. The stems are still green. They are still gaining weight. My question is: How long will they keep on the vine? We are shooting for the the Tennessee Valley Fair and the festival in Allardt so we need them to last for a while longer.

When they are gaining weight great. If you did shade the melon it will last longer. watch out for rot on the bottom. Under good conditions 70 to 100 days once the melon comes on the vine. IF the melon stops growing for a while it maybe ripe, or something wrong, may choose to pull and put in cooler instead of leaving on the vine.

Glad to hear you're having a good year. If plants are taken good care of you can get 90+ days. 70 is where mine usually falls apart. Good Luck.

In the north they can grow 115 to 120 days.Even Bill Neptune can grow them that long in southern Ohio.
