I had the good fortune of being invited out to visit Chris this afternoon. The 291 Kent(grafted) progeny is amazing. A picture of Chris with his awesome melon should be up soon in my growers diary. In my humble opinion this melon is likely to become the new world record watermelon on Saturday in Hamilton, Ohio. I hope I am able to attend. This is exactly what Nathan Okorn wanted to accomplish last year. I dare say Chris could not have accomplished this awesome goal without Nathan's help. I don't know if grafting lends to an unfair advantage, but I do know that the 4 largest melons ever grown were on grafted rootstock. There is a rumor going around there may be another 300 pounds plus melon in Hamilton so who knows what may happen. It should be a fun time for all.

Nice pic TD.I hope Chris the best,It might go lite & it might go heavy. Its a guessing game as usual.I can never tell.Tinys real heavy & Dollys just a little heavy.Fooled again this year.lol.So some think Chris's melon is an air bubble.Remember the 2009 Wallace went real lite. The first 1 ton kin!!!Good Luck Chris!!!I wont make a guess,Either way Chris is the best overall melon grower in the world to me.Amazing man!!No soil test taken.lol See ya in Hamilton.Im bringing my 291 Kent graft to & Jackson Reed the child. This will be the funnest weekend yet!!

Right now its the biggest melon by OTT ever grown. But we go by weight so until it hits the scale we won't know. That's why we weight em. I can't wait till this weekend!

It might be a big air bag. Or it might be a rock. But probally something in between ! I don't weight em before the weigh off's . I will be just as in the dark as everyone else there. I will know when its announced !
