I will be using drip irrigation this year, my main question though, is how many gallons should I give them at once? Drainage is very well.and also how much a water is good for a week? Any help would be much appreciated.

Keep them moist not soaked I watered the 260.5 every 36 hrs in 2011 about 75 to 100 gallons on 300 sg feet.Everyones soil is different so there is no 1 size fits all.Keep your stump dry.

It is intuition Chill. Soil make ups and conditions will vary considerably. Nutrition for the plant must be water soluble to be taken up and being soluble, you can wash out your plant food from the soil. I would err on the side of dryish. If you have copious amounts of of water soluble ferts you can push a diluted form to make up for any losses. Increasing as fruit growth continues. If you have 2" of dry dirt on the soil I would feel that it is time. (This is just my opinion and is not based on hands on experience with watermelons)
