I am giving one of these a go this year.
Just interested to know, do you also bury the vine as you do on the pumpkins to get extra root growth, or is the melon vines usally left un buried?

If you bury melon vines you will have disease issues in most places.I dont bury and have no issues.Others that do bury them say they have issues in my region.Put a rock over node or pin them down they will root in themselves.You can put a handfull of soil over each node it will wash off after a couple rains ,but will help it root.They will root through light weed barriers also,stay away from black barriers.Gray doesnt get as hot.

It is important to get as much rooting as you can. But Mark is right, vine burying almost always produces problems with vine rotting. So you probably shouldn't try it. Melon plant vines will do moderate natural rooting without any burying.

Cheers, yes i should have written that a tad more clearer, was really meant to say do you still encourage roots to form from the nodes like you do with pumpkins.

Sorry about that, but got the answer, encourage as much root growth as you can
