Do watermelon weight gains EVER slow down to almost nothing and then pick back up a little ? That seems to be the case with my 270 Neptune. I had a terrible aphid infestation that killed most of my plants leaves and also a hollow stump problems. Both problems seem to have stabilized for now as the plant has lots of new growth and the stump is hollow but dry. And unless my measuring was inconsistent growth seems to have resumed just a bit. Or is this just my measuring problem and the melon has been creeping along all this time ? I am unsure. So do they sometimes pick weight gain back up under certain circumstances ? My plant is looking better now but I know colder weather is on the way. I can only hope the grafted Shintosa Camerforce rootstock will allow the plant to keep doing it's thing and putting on a few more pounds in the colder temps. I have about 4 weeks to go now.

as long as there is nothing bad wrong with the plant or melon.
the 291 last year almost stoped at just .4 lbs a day, then picked back up to 1.94 lb per day.

I am sure Chris arrived at 1.94 by taking a gain over several days and dividing by the number of days. In other words the 1.94 was a mathematical average Spence.
