Well my 296.5 Barber has bit the dust.
Planted it out off a marsh at a friends place alongside the 209 Schinicker.
A week in and growing beautifully, and was dug up Friday morning by the dumb ass neighbors equally dumb ass Labrador .
Will insert a193 Bright in its place on Thursday.
The 209 Schinicker is growing very well and the main vine on it is probably a couple feet long now.
I noticed today the buds of male flowers forming on the vine.
Is this normal on such a small vine?

Yes. You will see males long before females and in much greater numbers.

Thanks brother dave.
Am side dressing plants on Thursday with rabbit manure tea, along with weekly fungicide application.
It's my first year growing so I'm very excited and full of questions.
They generally grow like regular melons ?

Carolina Cross melons need to be kept off the ground to keep from rotting. A lot of growers protect their stumps with a cover and certainly the fruit needs to be covered. And the growing time for a CC is up to 100 days or more post pollination. They are not like regular melons in several important ways.
