Chris shocked everyone (kinda) at Cullman, Alabama with a super heavy to chart melon at 264 lbs... Awesome job...

Great job Chris! That was a beautiful melon that went 15% heavy! If that is one of his small ones then I can't wait to see what a BIG one weighs!LOL

thanks Guys, i'm still in shock from the totally unexpected win.

Its crossed with my 242 from 2011. I never grew it till this year. It was 11% heavy, taped 218 and weighed 242. Should be a nice cross ! :)

Yeah it's taping 180 lbs right now but should go heavy. Still growing though. Yeah Ben our 229 went light and weighed 218 lbs.

Congrats to everyone. I thought it looked heavy but that was shocking. Franks melon looked really huge and it very rare for his to be light. I guess thats why we weigh them.

Way to go Chris. And a big congratulations to all the other melon growers who brought a giant melon to this weigh-off.

It looks a lot like it was grown off a grafted plant. Am I correct Chris ?

Anyway, I am glad grafted CC plants are no longer controversial.

Dennis, yes both mine & Franks were grafted. FWIW, i can't tell from a picture if they are grafted or not ;) Mine and Franks looked completely different.

Sorry Chris, of course you can't be sure if a melon if from a grafted plant or not just by looking at the fruit. And you are famous for fat melons anyway. But what I did notice was this particular melon was shaped much like the 316 (?) Bartoli world record. I just don't believe many CC melons get so fat they are nearly round unless they are on grafted rootstock.Anyway, I made a good guess. And I'll bet the next world record watermelon will once again come from a grafted plant.
