Anyone see the Facebook picture of Frank's melon. It looks pretty awesome for this early in the season. Here is a link but not sure if it works if you are not Frank's Facebook friend. - https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=477335512607877&set=a.341798212828275.1073741828.100009942970082&type=3&theater
I will try to copy and paste into my diary.

OK - I submitted Frank Mudd's newest melon picture to my growers diary but it may take a day to get it posted as I am not a premium member this year. Anyway I think it is the biggest melon I have seen for this early in the season.Clyde must have been working overtime in the off season. Way to grow Frank !

No sir. I just don't have the time this year as I am planning a move with my wife to The Philippines in a few months. She is a native Philippina and we are needed there and I think it will make for a very interesting retirement. So too much going on for me to grow this year. I hope to do some growing over there but will have to wait and see. Hmmm, I wonder what the melon record is over there ? Not very heavy I would bet. Perhaps I could get a contest started......

Glad to see you posting Dennis. That would be cool to grow a big watermelon in the Philippines. I bet you could grow year round? Is that right?

John, I am sure you could grow year round as there are no freezes. I think though conditions would be at their best during a cetain time of year and I would need to find out what that time period is.

Wayne, I think there are lots of insects and disease in the tropics and the days never are really long like they get further north or south. I really doubt if a big melon is possible. It might still be a lot of fun to see who the bragging rights go to though. I might have a unfair advantage on the local farmers for a while though. But you never know, they might have the advantage since they have been growing in the local conditions for a long time.Anyway, a contest might be a lot of fun however it played out.

No Dennis I don't have much room at my new place to plant more than one.
Maybe next year I can squeeze 2.
Just for fun I'm going to grow one in a 25 gallon tub on my deck to use as my pollinator and just to see how big I can get it.
my luck,a grafted plant would shut down and then I'd have nothing.
I remember that happening my first year.
Damn voles.
I had one the other morning split down the length of the stem.
Don't know if it was too much water,or the plant is growing too fast?
It's a week younger than any of my other plants, and it's almost twice as big.
Growing it's rear end off.
I think I'm going to stuff it with captan or something and see what it does.
Have to post pic in my diary.

Hey TD, Thanks for the post on Franks melon. Now I know what one looks like. Maybe in 30 more days I can fine one on my plants.
