Any Idea on the average of how many males on a vine until a female shows up? Is it about 5-7 males then a female? I have got 2 of my 146.5 plants grafted together with 2 sets of mains into a single main off of those well established it looks like and I am curious what the normal output of males before a female is. Like a dummie I have been removing all blooms during graft healing and not counting. Any input is appreciated. I know Chris Kent told me years back but I have forgotten. Thanks!

5-7 sounds about right.
I'm seeing every sixth one on my plant in the patch.

its highly variable depending on alot of stuff like weather, and plant health. This year it was more like 10-20 to unlimited males ! LOL normally every 3 feet.

Good luck on the pollinating pizza. Still no female on the grafted vines & a few on a couple secondary's. Hope some good ones show up soon on any of the mains. These are the biggest/fullest vines I've ever grown. Lotsa good plant behind one if it ever shows up!

Update: Like I stated in the previous post there were a few females on secondaries that were pea size almost premature or deformed looking, picked and threw them aside but I over looked 2 really nice normal looking big females and found them about noon, pollinated them x self and sib, sib got chewed on by a vole or mouse(Done) but I've got a fast growing one on the Selfed Melon. A bit over 10" long at 4 dap. 1 dap it was about 3,3/4"-4" long. Its about 3"/day in length this early on! Wonder if anyone else has had this happen just to have them fizzle out? Time will tell. Thanks again.

No overall.
Six inches in length overnight would give me a heart attack!
I usually don't measure straight length.
I just measure according to chart.

Your diary is really cool.
I like the idea of your graft.
Would like to try the seed from the melon it grows !
Would this make it sib or self ?

I've had tons and tons of male flowers with just a few female flowers and the ones that come on the vines abort. It's like a Chinese batchelor party in my melon patch this year.
