I'd like to get a couple decent CC watermelon seeds to put in this year. I rather not just have the generic-off-the-shelf seed. I'd be happy to pay (yikes, there goes that word), trade, send sasbp, etc, etc.

Phil any tips on growing watermellons.
Do they root from leaf nodes?

Kahuna, yes the grow roots from their leaf nodes, but don't bury the whole vine, just at the nodes. They like lots of water and keep them warm. I make a small greenhouse for them in the middle of aug and keep it on the remainder of the season. I also have a cold frame for them in the spring. Start the seeds in the second week of april. Also make sure the fruit grows straight, like a bottle of water laying on its side. If you need any questions answered during the season, email me and I will be happy to help out. You are only 1 1/2 hours away from me, if you have time in the summer come over for a visit. I'm just north of Lindsay. Hope this helps.

Phil thanks a lot. I will take you up on that offer during the summer. We should organize a tour this year in August. I have a three growers within 10 minutes of me. Gervais, Giffen & the Sass family are all close by. Brent, I'm sorry for stealing your thread. I should be down your way numerous times this summer as I coach a travel fastball team. We travel through your area often. I hope to visit with wayne as well.
