OK I haven't a clue to growing long gourds. Mine are now at ten feet and going strong. What do I do to make it blossom? This year is experimental but these things have really taken off. Any suggestions very appreciated, thanks. I searched the site and lots of info to grow LG's, now what do i do?

Assuming the growing conditions aren't compromised, when the time is right the girls will arrive.

Andy the plant will tell you. I have been growing LG's for 3 years and still baffled. My plant is at 18 feet and no females yet. I use the same fertilizer and spray program that I do for my pumpkins. I also use the same strategy as pumpkins, get a big engine going before you pollinate. I also have to pollinate the lg. I have heard from a lot of growers they have insects that do it, but never happened in my back yard. John

Andy,at 10' your LG plants are just youngsters, but soon your should see the first male blossoms. In about 10 days after that(just a guess from memory)the first females should open. My best LGs here in eastern Ontario are usually pollinated during the last week of July. AGs-first week July and LGs last week in July. Al Eaton

Thanks everyone for your input, I won't panic just yet. It's nice to have a time reference so I'm on track I guess. John, Steve, Mr. Eaton sir, I trust your wisdom, I have been spraying the LG's at the same time as my pumpkins as well, the long gourds semm to be responding better.
