My Lg's are chugging right along and I have only been watering them every second day and only a gallon or so at a time. Is that enough? I talked to a grower up the road who waters gallons at a time frequently. My soil is light and loamy. Also, could someone post a pic of a female that is close to opening. I've got lots of males ( and a few females I think) but I would like to see what they look like.

Andy:
I live in Georgia so our weather may be different. When healthy my LG plants take at least 20 gallons per week.
My opinion, more water.

Andy, I have received about 8 inches of rain in the past 8 days so too much is certainly not good. Scoop up some dirt from around the base and squeeze it into a ball. If the ball stays together soil is too wet but if it breaks apart it is probably fine. As for females they are not a whole lot different than baby cucumbers in looks as far as I am concerned. Just like a female pumpkin they will have a baby long gourd attached to them. Also the male flowers will be very long and the females much shorter. Hope this helps. John

Ron I saw your diary and WOW! I'm hoping for something 2-3 feet long, 72" is impressive from a 5 gal. pot.

Andy H.--I recall that last year in August, with no rain for awhile,I was averaging about 3 gal/plant/day. I watered about twice/week.If there is rain that has to factored in.
