When is the best time to remove the seeds? I want to save them. My gourd is done growing, would it be safe to leave them in the gourd until the 1st week of October?

Last year I picked a few long gourds about mid Aug. Kept them in a cool room till Oct. After the Oct. competition the seeds were removed for drying. The seeds germed just fine for the nexted year. If you store the gourd in a warm area you may be suprised that after a month or so when you open the gourd to harvest the seeds many of them have started to germinate inside of the gourd. So, a cool dry area would work better if your are waiting to take it to a competition. Every few days or so give it a wipe down with a wet cloth with 10% clorine solution to halt or slow down the mold that will form on it.
So how did you do this year?
Have a good one, and grow them long. :)

Thanks Venari, 1st time grower of the gourds this year. Figured I would grow one out of a 5 gallon pot on my deck for fun. I couldn't believe it got to 73" 109" Parsons x self. I guess I will bring it in and dry it in the basement.
