When do most people start there lg's? I have been starting mine after I get my pumpkins germinated. Do you use a hoop for the lg's? I haven't been using a hoop but I am going to use one next year to try and get em going a little earlier.

Started Lg's along with AG's this season. All were planted out on Memorial day here, late for AG's but took the competitive season off. Used "Walls-of-Water" encosures for the LG's...those green tinted water filled devices that encircle the plant and warm in the sun and radiate it back overnite. Have worked well for a couplke seasons now.

One week after the pumpkins seeds are done. As for the hoop house "Growers Supply" has these clear plastic umbrella domes is use. They are just a mini hoop house. They are great to keep the young plants warm till it get closer to June.

In my climate, two weeks after pumpkins. Otherwise they just sit around in the cold and do nothing. A hoop might help.

i,m gonna start in may next year sam, and start them when you just a bout start your pumpkins. If possible i,l start one plant a month later. The climate in sc allows for an early start on both pumpkins and gourds. i,m gonna try soil prep, hoop-kind protection and using more soil before climbing.

I aim for May 15. Of course it is warmer here than where you up in the mountains. If it is gonna be cool I use the Wall O Water like Duff. Just for fun and a test I planted a tomato on April 1st and the Wall O Water kept it warm and the tomato produced very well.

We start around April 20-25th and set them out in a hoop house by May 15th. I like to start early because they can be evry hard to germinate and we need to have time to start more if necessary.

Start LGs ten days after the best date for starting AGs at your location.
