So my long gourd at 95 inches was taken down off the plant as i noticed that it was getting soft on the bottom down in the hole i had dug to give it more vertical room. So as the hole got deeper id say so did the moisture level, it stopped growing and was sitting at the bottom and got soft. So i pulled it in, hoping that the end would dry, it got softer and broke open, so now i cut some of the bad rot out, So im wondering if this will dry and have viable seeds, or is it going to just rot the whole way down to the end and be a pile of mush. Any one familiar?

If you already have a hole in it I would take the seeds out and dry them like you would pumpkin seed. Last year I cut off the end of a long gourd took out the seeds and let the gourd hang on a tree and dry out all winter. By spring it was hard and dry. I don't know if the rot will continue to rot the rest of the gourd...

Yea yesturday i had pulled a few seeds that were visiable down by the end. Some look ok and are light brown which are usually good but alot of them look white and have a hollow feeling to them The really soft rotted part i cut out so the top of the back 6 inches is open and i have a small fan blowing on it. Ill have to test them a few out when i pull alot of them out. Thanks

well it apears that after cutting the back part open where it had rotted and placed a fan on it, it now has stopped rotting and hardened up on the back.
