O.k I was thinking maybe I should wait till I can find a decent spot to grow pumpkins and just grow other giant fruit this year....If I grew my one pumpkin plant I wounldn't be able to grow anything but that pumpkin plant.... if I did other giant things I could grow everything....I was thinking some pear gourds, long gourd, giant tomatos, and some giant sunflowers....I wanted to know if anyone has ever done this....I can grow a lot more long gourds in half the space then I could with a pumpkin plant. Also if there is anything else you should be added to my idea to grow list tell me.
thank you to anyone who replies.

Giant watermelons. Don't take much room and you can eat the result.

Next year will be my first time trying the giant varieties, but in the past my cantaloupe plants never got as big as my watermelons did. I'd say if you do try cantaloupes to give them only 1/2 to 3/4 the amount you give your watermelons, at least thats what I'm going to try. hopefully someone more knowledgeable on the subject will chime in, though I'm not sure they will look in the long gourd section. :)

Look like watermelons are out of the quistion. Don't have the much space. Has anyone just grown long gourds one year and have any regrets about it?

LG plants appear to require a small foot print, but their root system has been shown to be extensive, like 30' in the case of Mr Urena's WR plants! Credit George Webster for sharing that info! I suspect reduced LG yeilds here this season were due to patch crowding and plant competition for nutrients? Anyone who's grown LG's now knows they are vigorous growers and will take over their trellis' and any trees or buildings within close radius...LOL! Good luck.

I just went to get a official measurment on the patch.... I only have 300 sq ft was under the inpression I had 450. Looks like I will defitenitly be doing long gourds only. I can grow giant tomato's at a cominutee garden plot. I did find someone who will let me grow on there lnad in 2010, but there a hour away. That will be my real last resort.
