Got an early start this year, started 16 on the 7th and so far six have sprouted. One 96 Knox, three 107.5 Attaways and two 97 Lovelace ( last minute choice ) The 1st three had to be re-planted already. I'm pretty stoked for this year and the LG's are germing and a nice rate. Looking for the most vigorous plant.

PS- tried an experiment this year. Only the 96 Knox and 107.5 Attaway were soaked for 24 hrs and they were the 1st to germ.

What you soak them in, at what temp?

Not starting mine yet because that would take more hoop and heat cable....

Plain old tap water, at whatever temperature it came out.

How much quicker did they come up? Did you plant directly in pots and heat those or in a baggie?

Hi Andy:

Since I have a longer growing season I will direct seed
around May 1.

It has finally quit raining and warmed up here in GA.

Hi Bob, this is a very early start but with some luck and a heat cable I hope to have some well established plants by the end of June and some polinations early to mid July.

Grant, I suspect the 107.5 Attaway seeds would have sprouted quickly regardless of the soak. Out of the 1st four to pop, three of them are 107.5 seeds and still only one 96 Knox. A 117.38 Attaway and a 97 Lovelace have also come up so I took the heat away for now. All the seeds were planted directly into dirt and the 1st four had to be transplanted into bigger pots.

Does starting them in seed starter better than seed starter potting soil mix?
