This will be the first year at long gourds (wife's climbing clematis died over-winter so I had a space) and it took me forever to get one to finally germinate (I almost gave up) so I know that I'm a bit late with the plant and wondered....

It is only about 3" tall with 2nd true leaf coming out now so should I keep it indoor under lights in the pot to get it to go leggy before planting or put it out in the heated hoophouse in the pot to get it going taller in preparation to plant it?

First timer here and I can see by other posts that I'm a few weeks behind so wondered what would be best.

It is a 106.75" Timm.

Thanks/Glenn

Thanks Pete, guess I am just going to put them into the heated hoophouse for awhile till they are tall enough to transplant to the trellis.

Glenn there are two schools of thought, however, if it were me I'd get it in the ground ASAP to get that root system going. Just train the vine for a while to go toward your trellis. I use yellow yarn ( very soft and easy to see next to the green foliage ) tied very gently, one end a single tie to the nearest joint to the end of your plant and the other end to the trellis. The tendrils will naturally cling to the yarn and climb to the trellis.

In this pic the I tied the yarn very loosely at the "V". It also helps to stablize the plant in strong wind. Good luck!

Thanks Andy, weather here is supposed to improve so I'll get it in the ground soon.
