How many do you pollinate on each plant before picking your keeper?

Sam, I pollinate as many as possible and then begin the measuring and culling process.

I pollinate as many as I can as well and usually keep two of the strongest fastest growers on the plant.

David, I have seen about 40 days to be about an average growth. One lg grew for 44 days for me but that is not the norm for my patch.

In my experience they only grow about 40 days or so.

a LG will only make length gains for forty days after pollination before it is considered ready to harvest? Maybe I should cut a couple of the older LGs off since the contest isn't until October 2ND. I started pollinating on July 14TH. Thoughts please!

Caleb you can cut your lg off when it stop gaining lenght and store it for the contest

Someone please convince me you should cut it off after its done gaining length because I feel thats why half the LG seeds we try to germinate don't germ. I believe the seeds need more time on the vine to mature.

The 134 Johnson/Butler was left on the vine and those seeds were tough to germinate.

The LG's I leave on the vine has many more viable seeds than the ones I cut quickly.
