I was curious how many growers keep records of daily growth on their gourds. Maybe something we can compare and see what the averages are. I know it will vary from fruit to fruit and grower to grower.

Sam, I do a 3 day measurement.
I tried a 1 day measurement but a 3 day works for me.
Just my opinion.

Sam,I record lengths starting day 8,then each 3 days and to the nearest inch.
In a good year I average 6" a day on the better ones, this year only 4"/day.
I can't explain the poor growth rate this year.

Sam you are in North Carolina,I am in Ontario, different weather conditions, same plants, similiar final results.

I have averages from my best 3-4 LGs each year for 4 years,ie.12-16 different fruit.

Day 8-27" Day 11-43" Day 14-60" Day 17-76"

Day 20-88" Day 23-96" Day 26-102" Day 29-107"

Day 32-109" Day 35-111" Day 38-112" Day 41-113"

Note that our final average lengths of LG and time to finish are next to identical. Therefore I think these stats mean a lot.It is just that mine grew faster earlier on but gave the same results,so rate of early growth is not too critical.

Perhaps there is somebody who would like to bundle these figures into a table for all growers to use as benchmarks.I can do it by hand but not by computer.

It is quit interesting how different the growth rates can be depending on the reign you live. We know that our pumpkin growths are much faster earlier than else where. It appears long gourds are the same. I have a few gourds going right now. For instance i have one that was 16 day's old lastnight....91.5" I do see growth starting to slow but I'm sure this again is just ealier stronger growth than maybe else where in the country! That or maybe this will be the first 150" gourd...."not"!

Nice post guys! Looks rather consistant average around 2.5 for first 10 days then picking up pace to about 4.5 a day for days 10-25/30 with a final taper down to day 40-45.

I find these hard to do measures on as by the time I find them they may already be 10 or more days along. Totally missed a fat one till it was a three footer -- they are good hiders!

Does this growth rate correlate in any way to the "Golden Zone" theory, that all of us have prbly heard about? ie. the zone near the US/ Canadian border that is unduly biased against the rest of the continent? If so, I am going to build a 6' long gourd trellis, and want a 5' handicap!!! LOL Peace, Wayne
