I live in southeastern NY, where the last frost typically comes around May 15. I've never grown LGs before, but intend to so this year and was wondering when the best time to start them would be. I imagine around the same time as when I start my competition pumpkins and other cucurbits, but please advise if this is a false assumption.

Julian, I start mine about the same time I start my AGs which is right around the last weekend in April give or take a couple days depending on how the spring is up till that point.
If the soil has not been warmed and you don't have proper protection for them there is no point in putting them out early, the plant will just sit there till it gets warm, LGs love heat.
It usually takes the LGs longer to germinate then your AGs anywhere from 3-15 days. After germination I will transplant them to pots and put under the lights, they end up making it in the dirt by late may if my trellis is ready to go by then.
Good luck!!
