It has been said that the LG main does not produce any fruit. First, can someone verify that is true? If it is true, seems you want to trim the main when it reaches the top of the trellis to provide more growth to secondaries. I ask as one main is at the top and I think I will cut it. Can someone answer?
PS anyone every fall from their trellis? Dang things are high and well, OK, I fell and it FN hurts! But does make me more careful (certainly nervous)! Anyway a warning as I think someone could get very seriously hurt!

Chop all you want - the more you chop the more they grow. I never had so much fun then growing a long gourd, they are nuts - CHOP ALL YOU WANT and have fun watching it grow!

It is true that the guords show up on the secondaries. Never terminated a main yet, but that may be a good idea? As far as falling...LOL...I used to have a great old heavy wooden stepladder that succumbed to the weather being out all season. Replaced it with a fiberglass model that's great for moving around for pollinating and pruning, but I've fallen over more times than I care to report about...LOL! Budwieser fortification numbs the skeeters and the aching doesn't start till the next day! Good luck!

It's not common but a fruit can grow on a main. Last year one of my gourds showed great potential on the main but petered out after afew weeks. I kept the seeds for the potential cross. This year it is showing promise and I gave five plants to a friend. The cross is 122 Eaton x 95 Seca, my favorite LG plant.

nice LG -- one's in back look like they are going to be long and slender! Ummm wondering what Labadore you got ... I had a golden ... don't know about that meth one though :O
LG has proven to be something that grows here. last years PVC trelles lasted the season, but too far gone for this season so I built a permanant 14' one that is easy to add on to. So yea I know they grow like crazy :)

What about side vines below the trellis, train them to go up or cut them off? my trellis starts about 3ft.
