My lg leaves seem to get yellow, then get brown around the edges, then wither as they age. Looking at pics from other growers diaries, I've seen a lot of the same looking leaves .. so is that normal tendency .. or am I just lacking in the soil end of it

Wish I could answer that as I have seen that in my plants, this year as well as in the past.
I do soil sample and add what I need, but I also have sandy soil so it may leach out ??????

I have experienced the same condition for three years. My leaves under the trellis usually fall victim first, followed by the leaves on the northern side of the trellis.

Thanks guys, so it seems more like a natural thing , than a soil deficiency, I was hoping it wasn't due to ak's longer photo period. it seems my best growth is early in the year , do lg leaves just age earlier ..?

Under trellis, and North side would lead me to believe it is a natural occurence, due to lack of sunlight. Seems sorta natural to me? Peace, Wayne PS...Grow em LONG!!!

Not so sure that it is natural Dale. Leaves should show normal age but typically mine are green and healthy through the growth cycle. Except when tropical storm Irene went through of course. I would check your soil, you my be a little low on magnesium or some other secondary nutrient. John

I see the same thing as you Dale every season, older growth yellowing and fading away...but I think John is probably correct since he doesn't suffer the same issue. I'm not sure anyone knows yet exactly what conditions favor LG growth? Whatever John's soil looks like is probably a good starting point as he's got a couple long ones going! Good luck John and nice pumpkin season effort Dale! Congrats! Duff

I've tried with fair success: 1. adding gypsum to the soil 2. Mulching the soil around the base so that soil born fungus spores don't splash up on the leaves during rain or watering. 3.spraying lower leaves with a skim milk/water mix. 4. inoculating soil with appropriate bacteria and fungus, such as Rhizogen
