I sprouted a long gourd from seed a few weeks ago and now have a seedling that is about 2 inches tall. It is growing at a very small rate compared to pumpkins but also compared to my tomato plants. Can anyone who has grown a long gourd please comment on their experience (in terms of rate of growth) from seed to reaching the top of the trellis?

Lgs are slow to start in my opinion and can take awhile to become pot bound opposed to AGs. I have my lgs just peeking through the soil but probably won't plant them out for another 10 plus days. Once they take hold in the ground you can expect fairly rapid growth once they start running. After the first 2-4 feet of growth I see 4-6 inches per day even in our cool early summer here in Vermont. John

They tend to sit there until it gets HOT. Then they grow like weeds.

Don't I feel stupid. It turns out what I thought was a long gourd plant was actually a watermelon.
