Do you prune off side branches from the main gourd vine or should you let them grow once a gourd is established?

I should say I am just now getting my plants in the ground. This is my second year at gourds.

I posted a similar question on the GVGO.ca web site. I'm told that you let the side branches grow up the trellis and that most long gourds come from the side branches / secondaries.

All of the female flowers are on the secondary vines , allow them to grow up the trellis , after a few years you will learn which plants are going to produce the longer gourds by how long the fruit is on the female flower. long and skinny is what to look for
