There is an article by John and Chris Lyons about skewering a long gourd to support the gourd. This sounds like a very good idea. Has anyone tried this method themselves? I'd especially like to know exaclty where a person places that stainless steel pin they mention.....

The stem is remarkably strong. Proper vine tying and cut open rubber hoses to relieve strain are all that most do. Add in some additional supports after it gets about 5 feet long to keep it from blowing around.
