I find most male and female flowers open in the hour or so before sunset, earlier on an overcast day and later on a bright sunny day. They are getting ready to be visited by night flying insects that we don't have here.
So,evening pollination when the flower is freshest works for me.Occasional a laggard will be open in the early morning,so I catch it then.
This year for me,fewer females, poor setting rate and very slow growth. Can't figure out why?

This year almost no females and few males here too. It doesn't get dark till about 10:00 pm. here and I usually pollinate at 8:00 pm.
Yesterday I pollinated two females on one of my 122s. That plant had two males. The other 122 had one male and no females.
