At least 2' by 2' by 2'. the more the better.

6'x6' at planting site, but trellis is in the edge of pumpkin patch and roots run out in patch 20' or more.

My planting sites are about 5' square with room for roots to run farther. I have found that they respond well to foliar feeding once the gourd sets. I use a mix of soluble tomato fertilizer (Schultz or T-N-T) and molasses. The tomato food has higher potassium than regular Miracle Gro types. I like the Schultz as it has some micro nutrients too.
